I admit it. It takes a lot to get me to post about hardware. The new iPhone is delivered tomorrow and perhaps it has more processing power than the Cray supercomputer did a few years ago. Meh. I want more.
Today one of my colleagues showed me a cool new toy. That's it. I have to have one. He called it an "OnlyKey". It comes in a silicone skin and has disco LEDs built into the bottom to tell you when you have keyed in the right code. You use it to hold your complex passwords (up to 54 characters). This, though, holds 24 of them and will let you list them out if you forget what code or key combination you need to put in to expose the password you are after. Nice. But, what I really love about this bit of kit is the fact that you can lock it with its own pin(s). Key in the wrong code and the LED lights flash red. Put in the correct one and you get a green light. Loving that. Sync it to your Google authenticator and you get a password that changes every 30 seconds. I feel weak. This lets you have not one or two keys, but 24. It's LastPass on your keychain with no worry about compromise because you need a pin to use it. Yup I have one on order. Note: I have no affiliation with this product or its manufacturer. From what I have seen, it completely nails its use case. I like that. I also like that the guy I saw using it was so happy with it that he's buying them for all his techies (that way they can support clients without even knowing the "admin" password). Think about that...
