Top 5 Android AntiVirus tools from November’s tests by the AV-Test Institute The AV-TEST Institute is a Germany-based independent service provider of IT security and antivirus research. The apps. were tested for Protection, performance and usability. 1. Antiy Labs AVL 2.7. AVL had perfect scores across the board for protection, performance and usability. It took quite a while to perform an initial scan and complained about my latest version of Android. 2. Avira Antivirus Security 6.0 wasn't quite perfect on protection, detecting 99.6% of malware attacks in real time. It did check all the boxes on performance and gave no false warnings. Untested features include application control, privacy advisor, and safe browsing. 3. Bitdefender Mobile Security Version 3.3 Android malware detection in real-time is 100%, and it discovered the newest Android threats discovered in the last four weeks 100% of the time as well. For usability, the app gets big check marks for not dragging down battery life or device speeds. AV-TEST found zero false warnings during installation/usage of legitimate apps from Google Play or during installation and use of apps from third-party stores. Unlike some Android malware protection apps, Bitdefender’s Mobile Security offers anti-theft features, including remote lock, wipe, and locate, as well as safe web browsing and phishing protection. Like many other Android security tools, it doesn’t include message filtering or call blocking and doesn’t support all types of encryption. 4. It has a reasonably good suite of features including anti-theft, application control, VPN, a wi-fi advisor/check, and safe browsing. 5. The app does not enable personal data to be saved to an SD card or cloud storage or provide a VPN feature. Internet Security’s real-time Android malware detection rate was 100%, and it detected threats discovered in the past four weeks 100% of the time as well. The app issued zero false warnings during installation and use of legitimate apps from third-party app stores. Top 5 iOS AntiVirus tools Robert Bateman: Here’s a fact most antivirus companies don’t want to tell you: Virus scanning isn’t actually possible on iOS. Apple banned developers from publishing apps that claim to scan your iPhone for malware. This is because iPhone apps are “sandboxed”, meaning they can’t access data from other apps (with very limited exceptions). “Antivirus” is the wrong word to use because these apps are not really detecting viruses. But Apple’s built-in security measures can’t protect us from our own browsing habits. Phishing is a huge problem, theft is a huge problem, and browsing on unsecured networks is a huge problem. Phishing: Malicious mobile websites can trick you into giving your personal information to criminals. Unsafe networks: All the data on your iPhone can be hacked if you connect to an unsecured, public Wi-Fi network. Loss and theft: Phone theft is a huge problem, and iPhones are the most commonly stolen phones in the world. So iPhone and iOS “antivirus” apps don’t really detect “viruses”, but iOS “viruses” will still hack your passwords and steal your identity. In testing these iOS antivirus apps, I needed to be careful. There are hundreds of fake antivirus apps out there which are only designed to steal my iPhone’s information. That’s why I needed to be 100% sure I found only the best and safest antivirus app to download on all of my iOS devices. All are free. 1. Avira Mobile Security: #1 recommended antivirus app for all iOS devices in 2019. Trusted antivirus brand, anti-theft feature, amazing phishing protection, and a performance optimizer. 2. McAfee Mobile Security: Best anti-theft features out there, including CaptureCam to take a picture of the thief and restore/backup/wipe feature to keep your data safe. 3. Phone Guardian: Privacy VPN for safe browsing, also includes app data collection analyzer. 4. Lookout Personal for iOS: Features like Lost Message and Theft Alerts to find and protect against lost and stolen phones. 5. Avast Secure & Photo Vault: Secure storage in case of theft. |
